"Hercules Hercules Hercules!" - Coach John Lott

When it comes to performing at an elite level, the one thing that separates the elite from the average performers is their hip mobility. The more mobile your hips are the higher your performance. One individual who knows how important hip mobility is Larry Fitzgerald.

Now if you follow football then you know right now that Larry Fitzgerald is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL right now and he’s only 25 years old. And one of the exercises that he loves to do are overhead squats.

This video below was shot during a photo shoot that we (me and the EAS crew) did for Men’s Fitness.

As you can see you have to have great hip mobility in order to Overhead Squat to parallel. If you’re going to try this exercise try it with a dowel rod or broom stick first.  DO NOT try this execise for the first time with a lot of weight otherwise you may injure yourself.

The overhead squat builds great:

  • Shoulder Stability
  • Hip Mobility
  • Ankle Mobility
  • Raw leg strength

If you can successfully overhead squat to your thighs being parallel to the ground with a dowel rod or broomstick, you can then gradually add weight to make the exercise more challening by using the 45lb bar and then adding weight to this.

Train hard, help somebody and recover fast!
