Lewis Robinson

Lewis Robinson

Every now and then it isn’t unusual for us to have a tendency to dwell on the past. When we are looking to be successful in both sport and life at times we can get stuck in a rut. Even though this can happen to the best of us it is extremely important that we “Keep Moving Forward.”

In 2007 Disney Animated films released a movie called Meet the Robinsons. It is about a young orphan named Lewis with a genius I.Q. He is a young scientist who has trouble being successful in his young life because of his constant encounters with failures and his inability to let go of his past.

The movie ends when Lewis realizes that his future success and happiness evolved from all the lessons he learned from his numerous past failures and that he must always “Keep Moving Forward.”

At times we all have a little Lewis inside of us.  In sport it isn’t unusual for us to lose focus during a game after a:

  • Dropped ball
  • Missed goal or
  • Broken assignment

The same can happen in our training when we:

  • Get hurt or injured
  • Miss an attempted personal record in a lift
  • Lack the energy and focus to give 100% effort during every session

Just like Lewis, we need to persevere through times of uncertainty while we keep moving forward to our goals. This principle just doesn’t apply to our sport and training goals, but most importantly our life goals. We should continuously strive to

  • Learn from the past failures of others and the ones we make
  • Prepare for future success
  • Live in and enjoy the present in full awareness

Walt Disney said it best

Around here, however, we don’t
Look  backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and
Doing new things, because we’re curious…
And curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

This is the only way we will be able to fully unleash our potential and truly be “10 Laws Strong!”

“Relentlessly push forward in the present by
using your past failures and mistakes to fuel your future success.”
